Arnold won his first Masters trophy when he defeated Gary Player after an 18 round playoff with a 4 under par round, in The Masters Open of 64, his victory margin over Jack was 6 strokes. Gary stood 5th in that event. Arnold defeated Jack Nicklaus 6 times on different occasions and did the same with Gary Player many a time. He was crowd favorite and could win any tournament along with his fans at any golf course.
Jack Nicklaus turned professional in 1961 and left the golf in 2005, he has the shortest period among the Big three but has the most victories. His 73 PGA Tour wins are 3rd all-time best and he led the golf with record 18 victories in Major tournaments. His first clash with Arnold happened in 1960 when he finished second, in that event Jack was going to win The US open tournament as an amateur. He defeated Arnold in the same tournament 2 years later in front of a pro-Arnold crowd, in that match, Jack and Arnold were toe-to-toe in the final round and both finished 1 under par. Hundreds of the spectators watched The playoff of 18 holes where Jack took the lead on the very first hole and maintained it till the last one.
